A lot of people are down on the Carolina Panthers early preseason performance but I am encouraged on quite a few things. Most notibly, I think their defense is going to be pretty good. That and the fact that with the best running back tandem in football, you are going to get a steady dose of the run which will take pressure off of their young quarterbacks. When your defense is as solid as it appears the Panthers are, it allows them to play a much more conservative style which John Fox likes. Not a bad football team from what I have seen thus far. One glaring deficiency has been their inability to field punts, that is something that has to be ironed out before the start of the season. As a conservative styled football team, you cannot afford to give away points off of turnovers.
